SB is quite good midway to the end. By the end of ARR, story ends up picking up so much which makes you want to try the new expansions, that btw has half to none of those fetch quests you faced on ARR. Then you get into the lull of ARR part 2 (Seventh Astral Era quests), which the entire first half of that is just utterly boring. Don’t do the side quests unless necessary but even then roulettes would be better. Make sure to always do your roulettes. once you reach heavensward, you'll most probably be drawn into the story deeply. Heavensward is when FFXIV really opens up … As for the story, vanilla story is pretty boring. majority will be spent in ARR story. Just look up a story summary of everything that happens before you meet Lady Iceheart, and start watching again there. Then it goes HOLY MOLY (in a good way) for its finale. Picked up near the end. If you plan on watching cutscenes and plays regularly everyday it'll take you around 2 months. IMO if you're struggling, skip all the way until you're nearing the beginning of Heavensward. Supplementing leveling with PotD will change this calculation, too, though by how much is really up to you. Personally, I would play to the end of ARR skipping nothing. FFXIV’s Gunbreaker is the fourth job added to Final Fantasy XIV and will fulfil the Tank role. the expansion storylines are significantly better written and better paced than the base game. it's such a good concept and matches the awesome graphics of the areas etc. You can skip dialog or not, skip cutscenes or not, and then it's down to you, what job you're playing, how efficiently you can level in the times you have to level up once or twice to pick up your next MSQ. If you’re confused, or maybe looking for a base class – look at the notes below the table. If you stop to smell the roses at all it will take you longer. Played over the course of 10 days, playtime at level 60 was just shy of 5 days(think it was 4 days 22 hours, but lost Screenshot with new stormblood pc build). Took me 12 hours to do the quests between AAR conclusion and heavensward and that was skipping cutscenes. Hey, So I want to start FFXIV once again with brand new account, I wonder how long does it take to get through main story?? Best and worst vacation ever. i didn't pay attention to the first part of ARR and basically skipped through the majority of cutscenes. If you truly nolife it you can probably finish in a few days at most. Assuming that you're new and you're watching every cutscene. it takes soooo long it will feel like it's never going to end. It’s highs are some of the highest of any game I’ve ever played, but they are definitely set between some stretches of tedium that would make many people go crazy with boredom. A community for fans of Square Enix's popular MMORPG "Final Fantasy XIV Online", also known as FFXIV or FF14. Levels are on a curve, it takes far longer to go from 25-50 than it does to go from 1-24. But I did all side quests and didn't rush so it can certainly be done faster. To answer your question, yes, the story does pick up but not until like 5 patches later of content. You aren't even at the most tedious, irritating part which is in the low-mid 30's. Without spoilers, look forward to these, but don't count on them to level players up too fast. Press J to jump to the feed. If we're talking ARR and HW story, between a few dozen and a hundred or so hours. ARR storyline was zzz. Althrough I have a feeling you’re here for Dancer or Gunbreaker, lol.. After which this game's story becomes the most compelling Final Fantasy game since perhaps 10 or 12, depending on who you ask, but it is generally agreed that the story of this game is the strongest in the main title series since quite a while now. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts, 288hrs for you get from start to the end of heavensward. There are over 400 story quests and hours of cutscenes. I've been playing the original game (no expansions) and I find the story to be extremely slow and uninteresting. It was mainly a ton of fetch quest with a mediocre story. Once you hit level 35 the story starts to pick up and crescendos to 50 when it climaxes, then you will be facing a literal 100-quest wall before reaching Heavensward. Yo do have some good parts but with huge fetch quest stuff windows that makes the story unappealing if you don't care about reading and good script, which this game has a lot. We need FFXIV to end in a similar fashion to how XI recently did, to basically bring all of the game's world and story to a full complete closure and have no more expansions. Of the 150ish quests HW is made of I have managed to blow through 50 of them so far this last week without much issue. if i could have paid to skip it i 100% would have. So if this reviewer was like many players they absolutely despised the game's story progression in the beginning it could of been an issue of leaving a bad taste in their mouth. I've just recently been skipping everything to get through it faster. No expansions means you haven't hit Heavensward yet. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. When they redesigned this game a lot of aspects were great (the jobs, the Coils etc) but the MSQ was clearly not fantastic. Also there are several characters who you meet early on who will come back into the story, so while it seems slow right now it's building a foundation for the later story to build on. ARR base game MSQ pace is strange. You will use this later to speed up the gearing process. I suggest doing it as a healer or tank, tank will be even faster, but healer is quick enough, this is for queue times. If you're skipping all cutscenes and playing as efficiently as possible, you can probably get through it in a couple weeks of reasonably intense playtime. If that sounds like a lot of variance, that's because it is. It'll take you a month, maybe a week less. They slow down again for the post-ARR stuff, but pick up yet again with the 2.55 content, and everything after that is really good. With the 2 expacks it became much stronger. New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast. Then HW starts and the story is mostly entertaining throughout both HW and SB. Then it goes HOLY MOLY (in a good way) for its finale. If we're talking ARR and HW story, between a few dozen and a hundred or so hours.
